In says much as to the game of basketball and that of the NBA when you’ve got players calling out their peers or making remarks about their opponent’s supporters. But then that’s way of sports and it happens not just in the NBA . But across the diaspora of sports in general.

DeShawn Stevenson of the Washington Wizards has let it be known that he feels that LBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers is overrated. Well that’s Stevenson’s prerogative to voice his opinions. And it’s for his teammates should they wish to, they need to back him up. Otherwise it’d be in their best interests to tell him just to shut the fuck up. It’d certainly help also if Stevenson’s Wizards were somewhat more compeititve and give the Cavaliers’ and the Wizarsds’ fans their monies’ worth by way of a contest on the court in the series thus far. At 0-2 it seems as if the Wizards are now just treading water waiting on the inevitable to happen.

I’m sure that being swept by the Cavaliers will be their fait -accompli for the postseason. There’s not been much to really appreciate on this Wizards’ team during the regular season. As injuries have really kept the team from performing up to par. But Stevenson’s own actions goes to show me that even if they were at their best they’d have still met the same fate. There’s nothing more than a good ass kicking and a bitch slapping to make a team even more underappreciated than it already is . And that’s the position that the Washington Wizards now finds themselves in. So much so that it doesn’t seem warranted for the rest of the series to be televized at all. It’s becoming an abomination to watch the team perform so badly. And even worse watching Stevenson contribute so little to his team.

We all expect their to a little back and forth between teams in order for one to try and gain the upper hand over the other. But when it comes down to nothing more than plain downright stupidity then you’ve got to question the person’s argument for enacting the verbal jousts. So far the Cavaliers’ retort has been to let their actions speak for themselves on the court. Each of the two postseason games which they’ve won , has been done with a tremendous amount of ease. And it’s not about to get any easier for the Wizards as they’ll return home engage the Cavaliers on their homecourt. It may well be deja vu all over again. Not much is really expected as the Wizards have yet to find a consistency to their game. We’ll be lucky to see this partcular series last beyond the four games necessary it’ll take the Cavaliers to close out the series once and for all. Such has been mediocre opposition thrown at the Cavaliers by the Washington Wizards.

What’s it like to be a punch bag for any of the teams in the Eastern Conference ? And at this time last year the Boston Celtics and their fans would be telling you that it was indeed a very unpleasant feeling. The turnaround this year by the team has been simply amazing. And they’re now proving why it is that they’re everyone’s presumptive favorite to lift the NBA championship trophy this season. Their regular season record of 65-17 culminated in them being the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference. And their reward has been to play the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs.

The Atlanta Hawks have been anathema of sorts. As they can be equally exciting to watch as they can just as equally horrendous to watch. This is a team that when called upon to test the Celtics. Kevin Garnett and his teammates will use the effort as a sparring exercise. The Atlanta Hawks will be their punch bag as they’ll use an array of plays as a form of exercise to finely tune themselves for further travails in the next round, which’ll be the conference semi finals. So far the Celtics have done everything asked of them without much of a struggle. But their task may well have been made easier after the aspersions cast on the Celtics’ fans by the Atlanta Hawks’ Mike Bibby. His questioning their loyalty to the team and the fact that they’re now only supporting the team because of their current success, hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Celtics’ fans and their players. Suffice to say that Bibby might want to take back those comments at this juncture ?

Whatever Bibby had to say should’ve been best kept to himself and his teammates, instead of giving a sound byte to the press and public alike. Once more we’ve got an athlete opening their mouth and then not being able to back up their stance. Sometimes it makes me even wonder why it is that they even pursued a college career in the first place, if when once in college they didn’t happen to learn a damn thing ? It begs the question why open your mouth when you’ve got nothing of relevance to say about your opponent or their fans. Other than to throw insults and cast aspersions about them. The Celtics and their fans in particular must be liking what’s been dished out to Bibby and his teammates thus far. Not at any time throughout the series have they come under any pressure from the Atlanta Hawks and it has been like watching a child being reprimanded by a superior . As Garnett and his teammates have had their way with their conference opponents.

As with the series involving the Cavaliers and Wizards, this particular series hasn’t been one that’s highly contested let alone compeititve. Try as much as the Hawks have done they’ve not been able to match the guile or wit of this Doc Rivers’ coached team. The Celtics have had their way with their opponents throughout the series . And Mike Bibby of the Atlanta Hawks has been made to feel as welcomed in their arena as if he were a member of General Cornwallis’ army coming into pillage and loot their fair city. Each time Bibby touched the ball throughout the game he was soundly booed by the Celtics’ fans. One can only summize what they really think of the player at this juncture , other than to say Bibby should watch his back should he ever take a stroll through the streets of Boston unaccompanied.

As these series continue to unfold within both conferences there’ll be more stories to be written and each chapter will have a whole new bunch of storylines that’ll either keep us either enthralled or just numb with boredom. One way or another it’s just hoped that we can have some exciting games on hand. And that the players will let their actions speak for themselves on the court. We tend to leave the buffoonery and comedic entertainment to the likes of Hollywood and our politicians. As they’re the ones who tend to make fools of themselves even when they’re trying to say something insightful. Some athletes maybe bright but not all of them are that bright. Many of them when they do have something to say can’t even enunciate in the right tone let alone get a point across in a meaningful way.

Hey Top!
Great post. At least the Wizards got back into their series.
Now maybe Stevenson will keep his yap shut.
Mean Dovine
So they’ve pulled one back but they’ve still got play out the rest of the series.
And if anything the Cavs and LeBron in particular’ll have to show their resolve and close out the series once and for all !
